1. John Forsythe…as Blake Carrington
John Forsythe began playing the role he was most widely known for, Blake Carrington, at the age of 63. He didn’t even begin acting until he was 30 years old, most likely due to the objections of his father. It just goes to show you; it’s never too late to start. He put his career on hold during the war but started right back up again upon his return. He had to put his dreams on hold one more time when he underwent quadruple bypass surgery, but he did so well, he returned to acting later that year. He was the only actor to have played in all 220 episodes of “Dynasty.”

John was paid five million dollars to continue his role as the unseen Charlie in the film productions of “Charlie’s Angels.” He was quite generous with his time and money, though. John succumbed to complications from pneumonia in 2010. He was 92 years old.

2. Linda Evans…as Krystle Carrington
Linda Evans who was well known for her platinum blonde hair, voluptuous figure, and sultry voice was the perfect fit for the role of Krystle Carrington. She became a style icon for the 1980’s with her power suits. Linda even started a successful fashion line mirroring the fashions on “Dynasty.” Do you remember Yanni? He is the musician who redefined synthesizers and symphony orchestra. Linda calls him one of the great loves of her life despite their relationship ending in 1998.

Linda retired from acting in 1997 at the age of 54. That is, until she was given the opportunity to reunite with her “Dynasty” castmates. 3. Joan Collins…as Alexis Carrington Colby
Joan Collins was already working on her third marriage when she was cast as Alexis in “Dynasty.” She did not have the best of luck with men. Not only was she married five times, she has been engaged multiple times, and had numerous affairs. Her first husband even tried to sell her to an Arab sheik less than a year after they were married. Yeah, that sounds normal. Although, she probably doesn’t do much complaining now, as her current husband is 32 years her junior. In fact, he is the same age as her son and two years younger than her daughter.

After a brief hiatus when “Dynasty” ended, Joan returned to television and film both in the United States and the U.K. She wrote multiple books, both fiction and non-fiction. She starred in commercial ads, on Broadway, and even sang for productions. In 2015, Joan received the ultimate honor when Queen Elizabeth II pronounced her Dame due to her services to charity. 4. John James…as Jeff Colby
John played Jeff Colby on both “Dynasty” and the spin-off show, “The Colby’s.” While these were his most famous roles, he had also previously appeared on “Fantasy Island” and “The Love Boat.” Just as Dynasty ended, John married Denise Ellen Coward who was a model and second runner-up for Miss World in 1978. While John preferred to stay out of the limelight for a while after “Dynasty,” he did return for the reunion show. Wouldn’t you think it would just make good business sense to do that?

5. Michael Nader…as Dex Dexter
Like many “Dynasty” stars, Michael continued his acting career in daytime soap operas. Michael garnered quite a following playing Dimitri on “All My Children.” In 1992, he found himself on the Soap Opera Digest’s TV’s Sexiest Men list. He was also awarded Best Actor, Best Brother, Outstanding Villain, and a Best Male Return award for his soap opera career. Talk about a well-rounded character.

Michael reprised his role as Dimitri on “All My Children” in 2013. His hair had thinned considerably by this time and when he saw his costar he exclaimed, “I am not competing with that head of hair.” So, what was the logical solution? He shaved it all off. In 2001, he succumbed to the pressures of show business and was arrested for possession of an illegal substance. He has been sober for ten years and is an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

6. Jack Coleman…as Steven Carrington
Jack Coleman descends from American royalty. He is the sixth-generation grandson of Benjamin Franklin. He is a television and theater star known most famously for his role on “Dynasty.” This notoriety came partly due to his character being one of the first openly gay characters on prime-time television. Since then he has portrayed a gay character at least two other times. In 1986, Jack won a Drama Critics Circle Award for his theater performance of “Bouncers” in Los Angeles. Hoping to capitalize on this success, he turned down a role in the film, “The Flash” in 1990 to pursue his Broadway career. How do you think that worked out for him?

It appears a Broadway career was not in the works for Jack as he declared, “I always thought invisibility would be cool, but then I was invisible for most of the ’90s.” Television was happy to welcome him back. “Heroes” was his next breakout role. He played Noah Bennett who was the villain with an endearing heart at times. While the show didn’t survive long, it amassed a cult following that was devastated by its departure. A riot ensued, or at least a few strongly worded letters. It must have worked because in 2015, Jack reappeared as Noah Bennett in the event miniseries “Heroes Reborn” much to his fans delight.

7. Heather Locklear…as Sammy Jo Dean Carrington
Heather Locklear is well known for her roles on “Dynasty,” “T.J. Hooker,” and “Melrose Place.” Clearly a fan of rock music, she was previously married to Bon Jovi guitarist, Richie Sambora and Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee. Heather can credit her acting career back to high school where she was excluded from her cheerleading squad and picked up drama instead. Shortly after her role on “Dynasty,” she turned down the lead in the film “The Accused.” Jodie Foster took the part and later won an Oscar for the role. That may not have been the wisest decision of her career.

Heather had a very public battle with prescription drugs which she used to control her anxiety and depression. Less than five months after being admitted to a treatment facility for the management of her medications, she was arrested for a DUI. The charges were for prescription medication, and she pleaded guilty to the charges of reckless driving. The charges were dropped so long as she agreed to three years of probation, a driver safety class, and to pay a fine of $700.

8. Pamela Bellwood…as Claudia Blaisdell
Pamela Bellwood was born Pamela King, was credited on Broadway as Pamela Kingsley, and is now often credited as Pamela Bellwood-Wheeler. Can’t she just stick to one name? While Pamela was most widely known as Claudia Blaisdell, it was an on-again, off-again role. She eventually left for good in 1986 to raise her family. She did return 20 years later for the non-fiction special, “Dynasty Reunion: Catfights & Caviar.” Seriously, why would anyone not return for the reunion. It’s easy money, don’t you think?

Like many actresses at the time, Pamela posed for Playboy in April of 1983. She has continued to have a fairly successful career in television, in film, and on stage. 9. Pamela Sue Martin…as Fallon Carrington Colby
Pamela was best known for her role on “Dynasty” as well as “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.” Directly after her role as Nancy Drew ended, she appeared in Playboy with the headline, “TV’s Nancy Drew Undraped.” After “Dynasty” ended, you would think Playboy would be an obvious choice again, but she chose a different path. In February of 1985, she had the pleasure of hosting Saturday Night Live.

10. Diahann Carroll…as Dominique Deveraux
There was much hype surrounding Diahann’s role on “Dynasty.” Many hoped that she would play a much-desired nemesis to Joan Collins’ character. Unfortunately, the chemistry wasn’t there. A second attempt was made on the “Dynasty” spin-off “The Colbys, ” but again, the role failed to take hold. Her television career didn’t end there, however. She had great success with the made-for-tv movies, “Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years” and “Livin’ for Love: The Natalie Cole Story.”

11. George Hamilton…as Joel Abrigore
George Hamilton’s career as a dramatic artist was very promising at the beginning. Over time it began to wax and wane. His character both on and off screen began to get campier. He used this to his advantage during his time on “Dynasty.” He acted in a series of television commercials that often poked fun at himself. The most famous of these was for Ritz where he used his fame as ‘The Tanned One’ to promote their toasted crackers. In 1989, he began selling skin care products and opened a line of tanning salons.

In 2005, Hamilton appeared on the second season of the reality show, “Dancing With the Stars.” While his fans kept him hanging on as long as possible, his dancing was just not up to par. He was up against much younger, more limber dancers so he only lasted until the sixth round. He proved he was not done with reality TV however. George went on to appear in the U.K.’s “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here” and Season four of “Celebrity Wife Swap.” Most recently he revived his tanned persona to promote Kentucky Fried Chicken as the “Extra Crispy Colonel.” George received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on his 70th birthday.

12. Ted McGinley…as Clay Fallmont
Ted McGinley had long-running roles in multiple television series including “Dynasty.” One of his most popular roles was on the hit show, “Married With Children,” where he played the next door neighbor. Ted has been nicknamed “Ted the Show Killer” for his uncanny ability to enter a show shortly before its demise. When a show changes direction then goes on a rapid decline, it’s called “jumping the shark.” Out of sheer coincidence, Ted seemed to frequently join shows just before they jumped the shark. The popular website jumptheshark.com has called Ted the “Patron Saint of shark-jumping.” Ouch. It has been said time and again though that this was no reflection on his acting abilities.
